A top-ranking Iranian military official is blown up while trying to defect to the West. An investigative journalist is arrested and imprisoned for writing an article critical of the Turkish government. An Iranian nuclear scientist is assassinated on the streets of Tehran. These three incidents, seemingly unrelated, have one crucial link. Each of the three had been recently recruited by Western intelligence, before being removed or killed. Then Paul Wallinger, MI6’s most senior agent in Turkey, dies in a puzzling plane crash. Fearing the worst, MI6 bypasses the usual protocol and brings disgraced agent Tom Kell in from the cold to investigate. Kell soon discovers what Wallinger had already begun to suspect - that there’s a mole somewhere in the Western intelligence, a traitor who has been systematically sabotaging scores of joint intelligence operations in the Middle East. 1. In Southeast Turkey, where the heads of the four main rivers once met, a magnificent temple created 14,000 years ago is discovered beneath the desert floor. Believed to have been created by lost technology, it is quickly determined by a team of archeologists to be the centerpiece of Eden, a once illustrious civilization and the cradle of mankind. But what if Eden is not the paradise that the texts make it out to be? What if it held dark secrets and unholy terrors instead? As Senior Archeologist, Alyssa Moore, and her team of experts discover the truth of man´s beginning, she realizes that the secrets of man´s true origins lie within the sacred tombs inside the temple. But the journey for the truth is not without its dangers or pitfalls…Something walks the warrens within. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Adam Hanin. From two extraordinary authors comes a moving, exuberant, laugh-out-loud novel about friendship and family, told entirely in emails and letters.Avery Bloom, who´s bookish, intense, and afraid of many things, particularly deep water, lives in New York City. Bett Devlin, who´s fearless, outgoing, and loves all animals as well as the ocean, lives in California. What they have in common is that they are both twelve years old, and are both being raised by single, gay dads. When their dads fall in love, Bett and Avery are sent, against their will, to the same sleepaway camp. Their dads hope that they will find common ground and become friends--and possibly, one day, even sisters. But things soon go off the rails for the girls (and for their dads too), and they find themselves on a summer adventure that neither of them could have predicted. Now that they can´t imagine life without each other, will the two girls (who sometimes call themselves Night Owl and Dogfish) figure out a way to be a family?Holly Goldberg Sloan was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and spent her childhood living in Holland, Istanbul, Turkey, Washington, D.C., Berkeley, California, and Eugene, Oregon. After graduating from Wellesley College and spending some time as an advertising copywriter, she began writing family feature films, including Angels in the Outfield and Made in America . She is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Counting by 7s and Short , among other novels. Meg Wolitzer was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in the town of Syosset, on Long Island, and sold her first novel, Sleepwalking , while a senior in college. She is the New York Times -bestselling author of numerous novels for adults, including The Interestings , The Ten-Year Nap , The Wife , and The Female Persuasion , the young adult novel Belzhar , and the middle-grade novel The Fingertips of Duncan Dorfman .
In the past five years, Israel has mounted three major assaults on the 1.8 million Palestinians trapped behind its blockade of the Gaza Strip. Taken together, Operation Cast Lead (2008-9), Operation Pillar of Defense (2012), and Operation Protective Edge (2014) have resulted in the deaths of some 3,700 Palestinians. Meanwhile a total of 90 Israelis were killed in the invasions. On the face of it, this succession of vastly disproportionate attacks has often seemed frenzied and pathological. Senior Israeli politicians have not discouraged such perceptions; indeed, they have actively encouraged them. After the 2008-9 assault, Israel´s then-foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, boasted, ´´Israel demonstrated real hooliganism during the course of the recent operation, which I demanded.´´ However, as Norman G. Finkelstein sets out in this concise, paradigm-shifting new book, a closer examination of Israel´s motives reveals a state whose repeated recourse to savage war is far from irrational. Rather, Israel´s attacks have been designed to sabotage the possibility of a peace compromise with the Palestinians, even on terms that are favorable to it. Looking also at machinations around the 2009 UN-sponsored Goldstone report and Turkey´s forlorn attempt to seek redress in the UN for the killing of its citizens in the 2010 attack on the Gaza freedom flotilla, Finkelstein documents how Israel has repeatedly eluded accountability for what are now widely recognized as war crimes. Further, he shows that, though neither side can claim clear victory in these conflicts, the ensuing stalemate remains much more tolerable for Israelis than for the beleaguered citizens of Gaza. A strategy of mass nonviolent protest might, he contends, hold more promise for a Palestinian victory than military resistance, however brave. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gary Dana. ´´A superb book and educational aid for pastors and church leaders - a one stop shop of what they need to know to lead and run a church.´´ - Nancy Plaxico, church leader ´´I find myself not just reading it, but also studying it. It´s an amazing work that is incredibly Scriptural. I´ve been in ministry for 15 years, and I´m learning a great deal. I don´t say this about a lot of books, but this one impresses me. This is one book that I will highly recommend to all pastors.´´ - Pastor Jesse Bingaman ´´This is a book you will want to read and re-read many times.´´ - Pastor Bob McIntyre Pastoring: The Nuts and Bolts began when pastors in Turkey asked for a written version of Dr. Wentz´s workshops. Advance copies are being used to train pastors in Africa and Asia. Designed especially for pastors looking for help with day to day ministry issues, it stands out from similar books in its comprehensive scope and theological and cultural neutrality, including issues common to charismatic and pentecostal as well as mainline and evangelical churches around the world. It offers options and best practices rather than prescriptions. If a pastor or church can have only one book besides the Bible, this is designed to be most helpful. Illustrated with real-life experiences, a conversational second-person style makes the book engaging to read. Each chapter ends with bulleted ´´Points to Remember.´´ Part One lays the foundation on God´s three-fold purpose for inventing the church. It recasts worship, discipleship and evangelism as aspects of God´s relationship with his family, the church. As infinitely loving Father, God desires to live with his family in a loving home (created by worship), raise up children like himself (discipleship), and invite every person to become part of his family (evangelism). Part Two uses personal experiences to illustrate advice on life as a pastor, from the initial call through personal and family issues to moving on and retirement. Part Three offers ways of effectively dealing with the day to day issues of being in charge of a local church. It addresses church organization, preaching, worship and ministries, and how to work with people, money, and other churches. More comments from advance reviews: ´´It is a breath of fresh air and inspired by the Holy Spirit. The only recommended change is your title. The word pastor limits who might read it. Laity and clergy would benefit.´´ - Pastor Lois Cannon ´´I like your use of stories and illustrations from your vast experience - a nice balance with the biblical verses and context. You use cultural sensitivity and demonstrate balance, strength of thought and conviction without off-putting dogmatism. This will give the book appeal and usefulness across the many different faith expressions and church traditions around the world. There is a need and great space for a book like yours.´´ - John Fletcher, Senior Vice President of Global Missions, Pioneers ´´The entire team is really thanking you because some phrases have become commonly used words on a daily basis.´´ - Pastor Musinguzi Ibrahim, Uganda ´´It has helped me become not only a better pastor but also a better person. have also noticed great change in my pastors, they are now more mature and responsible. I recommend this book to every pastor.´´ - Pastor Abraham Manya, Kenya 330 pages
